Peyotl, Grandfather - L. williams
2022

Peyotl is a more traditional way to spell this slow growing cactus’s name. These cacti are reaching threatened status due to intense over harvesting and poaching in the wild. Peyotl has a very specific growing region, quite small, and seekers of all kinds have been illegally wild crafting and damaging the precious bioregion for decades. Something else important to note here is that this plant is a sacrament to many indigenous tribes, from Mexico up into the northern Plains. Many great leaders fought for and even died trying to protect the use of this plant in transitional ceremonies. These are the main reasons why I share this flower essence, so that we can commune with this plant’s spirit in a mindful way. Remember, flower essences only utilize the plant’s flowers. I genuinely believe Peyotl has a message for the wider population at this time.

This special essence inspires one to fearlessly open their heart to giving and receiving love.

Cultivation of authentic courage. Courageous love.
Are you READY?

Peyotl can help one feel motivated to break through limiting beliefs, consuming fears, and difficult anxieties around love. This is an essence for matters of the heart, and not necessarily romantic affairs but situations and circumstances that make you FEEL.

Worth adding in — “Radiocarbon studies of yote buttons have dated the ritual use of L. williams by Indigenous peoples back more than 5,000 years, but 'yotism did not reach the Diné and other Plains tribes until the mid- to late 1800s.

Then in 1883, Congress passed the Religious Crimes Code, outlawing Indigenous American spirituality on the grounds that it hindered the federal policy of forced assimilation. In addition to ceremonies, the sun dance and ghost dance were only practiced in secret, with violators subjected to jail time and the withholding of food rations.

The religious crimes law would not be repealed until 1978, when Congress passed the American Indian Religious Freedom Act (Airfa). But Airfa did not specifically address the use of yote, which the federal government still classified as a highly addictive, schedule 1 drug. To distinguish themselves from the experimental hippies in the 1970s, Indigenous American yote practitioners banded together to form a religion called the Native American church, demanding the same protections for their religious beliefs as anyone else in the US.

After decades of lobbying by Native American church groups, a 1994 amendment to Airfa finally gave protections to Indigenous American yote users by stipulating that yote can only be consumed by a “federally recognized tribal member” and “in connection with a traditional Indian religion”. The amendment also authorized tribal members to legally transport yote across state lines.”

Needless to say, this flower essence is very special.

*Essences are a way to work with these potent visionary plants in integratabtle, sustainable, and more gentle ways. These ceremonial experiences can really lead us into confusion when they aren’t guided appropriately. Flower Essences however are SAFE and for me, amazingly effective. They are solely energetic in nature. NO PHYSICAL CONSTITUENTS. I have an immense amount of respect for what we call Master Plants: plants that contain constituents that can take us on visionary journeys and give us profound healing experiences. I do not take this lightly, that I am able to offer this essence (and many others), and I do believe it is a great privilege for me to be able to share it with a wider community. With that being said, with all the Master Plant Essences, I will be donating a portion of what I make to our teachers in Peru (and beyond) where many of these essences are collected and where we have grown our relationships to healers, the actual plants, and living traditions that carry them in an integral and traditional way.

**Much of the experiences advertised in many circles are not in genuine right relationship to cultures, the plants, and native landscapes, and for those reasons I do not advocate for someone going on those journeys. Seek an authentic teacher who has true lineage and integrity, please.

Working with Flower Essences is a call for personal ritual. Create a time of intentional interaction with these Essences. For example, try to curate your schedule to where you can have a moment of stillness to invite the essences into your body. It’s best to not be dropping these emotional allies into your mouth while running out of the door, watching tv, tackling your to-do list. Instead, try to take even just 5-10 minutes to really be with the essence in stillness. Having a journal to log what comes up for you can be really helpful. Taking flower essences right before bed invites the flowers to communicate through dreams, so track your nighttime adventures in your journal too. Taking a flower essence with the intention of being creative can be really revealing as well!
